Shah savan, jajim
1920s, north west Iran
2.1 m by 2.5 m
Jajim of this quality are rare beasts, especially with this unusual light blue stripe. Natural dyes and hand spun wool.
The shah savan ( lovers of the shah), a tribal confederation from North west Iran, are highly regarded weavers and their old trappings are much sought after.
These flat weaves were woven to be multi purpose covers. Employed to divide tent living space, cover the loads of camels on migration, or a host of other jobs required by tribal life.
They make beautiful and warm bedcovers, stunning hangings or curtains, throws and spectacular table covers. Always guaranteed to generate a few stories over a glass of good red.
