Iranian hunting rug
Kordi, from Quchan, Khorrasan province
1.3 m by 2.2 m
Pictorial rug from Kurdish village weavers in the mountains above Mashed.
Drawing inspiration from classic hunting rugs from Tabriz and elsewhere in Iran, the weaver has triumphed in her desire to produce this design in a tribal weave - no mean feat when you think that this would normally be made in a very fine weave and cost thousands of pounds.
Pictorial rugs are rare, usually being commissioned by an important dignitary or tribal khan.
